Her story begins in 1976 when Ruth worked for a craft
store. Her employer asked her to create samples of what
could be made with polymer clay. When people saw her
samples they weren't interested in the clay; they wanted to buy what
she had made! She loved working with the clay, and from
there, her business was launched.
In the early days,
polymer clay came only in white and had to be painted
after it was cooked. Today, polymer clay comes pigmented
in a wide variety of colors, and finishes, including metallics,
fluorescents, and even glow-in-the-dark colors. This
medium has
gained the respect of major artists and craftsmen. It is liked for its versatility, durability, and
strong
colors.
Ruth has received
numerous awards over the years. Her multicultural jewelry was
presented at the Whitehouse. She is proud of the thank you
letter she received from the President. She also designed an
exclusive line of jewelry for an environmental
group and has done many specially commissioned pieces for fundraising
and not-for-profit groups.
Ruth has been in business now for 36 years and spends most of her time in the studio. However,
doing shows with her husband Joe, and making personal
contact with devoted customers, is what she enjoys most.
She meets many interesting people and loves
hearing their comments and ideas. View the
